Lastar - Committed To The Communities In Which We Work and Live

Lastar's commitment to being good teammates and citizens is not just internal. As an organization, we are also involved in the communities in which we work and live and drive to be a positive influence on those communities. Each facility decides which local causes to support and community outreach truly becomes a team effort. Below are just a few of the endeavors Lastar has undertaken to ensure we are good stewards to our communities.

American Heart Association
Welcome Home Soldier Memorial
Moraine Meadows
One To Many Outreach
Meals on Wheels

These are just a few of the ways that Lastar is involved in our local communities.

American Heart Association

2006 marked the first year of Lastar's participation in the America Heart Association's Greater Dayton Heart Walk with Lastar CEO Mike Shane serving as the Chairperson for the Walk. In 2007, Mike Shane again was the local chairperson for the 2007 American Heart Association's Great Dayton Heart Walk. This 5k run/walk was a fundraiser for Dayton's local chapter and Lastar had over 60 participants and hundreds of financial contributors. Funds from the walk went to research and develop of new treatments for heart disease that are less invasive and can improve quality of life for patients affected by heart disease.

Welcome Home Soldier Memorial

Welcome Home Soldier, a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring those who serve or have served our country's military, decided to construct a memorial just outside of the Lastar facility in Albia, IA. The sacrifice our men and women in the military make hit home when the brother of our own employees was killed in action while serving abroad. To support this initiative, Lastar created a raffle where all proceeds went to the Memorial while the lucky winner got to spend 30 seconds in our cash both. The effort generated nearly $2,300 that went to construction costs for the Memorial.

Moraine Meadows

Moraine Meadows is an elementary school located within a few miles of Lastar's Intergalactic Headquarters. The mother of one of our associates teaches at the school and shared with her son the need for tutors that the school had. Our associate worked with our HR team in creating an opportunity for Dayton-based employees to get involved and help children through the tutoring process. The response was overwhelming and Lastar continues to enjoy a strong relationship with the school. Each year a group of the children visit us and share their holiday songs and well wishes.

One To Many Outreach

Lastar's One To Many Outreach program started in our Albia facility as a grassroots effort to local support charities. The idea is simple: choose one or two local charities each quarter, invite Lastar associates to participate in a pot-luck luncheon where they pay to eat, and donate all of the proceeds to the charities. The idea was adopted by the other U.S. Lastar facilities and each quarter a One To Many lunch is held. During the lunch, representatives from the local charities are invited to share information with our associates about their charities and provide ways for Lastar associates to get involved. Lastar matches all proceeds that the associate base contributes with 25% of all proceeds being used for Lastar's "Adopt A Family" holiday program which provides support to local families with financial need.

Meals on Wheels

Our Salt Lake City team delivers meals each week in support of the Meals on Wheels program. A strong bond has formed between the team and the folks whom they support. During the holiday season, the team provides "stockings" filled with gifts that the team has donated.
